Hello generous friends and supporters!We just wanted to give everyone a quick update. This week we welcomed Gracie, a precious baby girl into our baby haven. (Her name means blessing) What a blessing she is, and how thankful we are to God that she was saved from a failed abortion. Praise be to God that she is now safe and in a loving home where she will receive so much love and way too many snuggles.Also, we were able to send over money for a stove (the other one bit the dust) for our soup kitchen. Merry Christmas, everyone, from Merryfield’s soup kitchen in SA! It would not have been possible without you. It took a lot to pull this off, volunteers, donations sent, and lots of food bought, prepped, and prepared. Again this week we had the honor of partnering alongside our church to contribute food to those that have very little to no resources to be able to provide for their families. Due to the generosity of others, we were able to afford so much more food than in the past. 217 food parcels were assembled that included maize meal, flour, apples, soya mince, soup, and other items. We also had the privilege of helping pack and hand out those parcels to those that needed them the most. Hello to you all! We wanted to share with you some wonderful news. Our precious *Jacob was just adopted at 4-months old to a loving, Christian couple. Also, we took in another beautiful baby girl, named *Avery, the day she was born. Sadly, she was a product of rape, but we are so thankful to the birth mother for sparing her life. She is a prime example of God’s precious gift of life and reminds us how valuable we are in His eyes. We are also thankful to be able to serve here and blessed to be a place of refuge and safety for these cherished ones.We're heading back to the US on June 25th for a few months to handle some family and ministry matters. Our Preston has been accepted into film school in Los Angeles and needs to be there in July. We also need to get Sterling’s drivers license in Sept, as he’s almost 18. Plus, we have some other family business that can’t be put off any longer. Along with these, we are looking forward to sharing with our supporters and others what the Lord's been doing here and future plans.We have located two properties here that could work ideally for MV that would finally give us a place of ministry to call our own. Please ask the Lord to give us wisdom as we are going over the details in preparation to make a fair offer. We're excited to share while we are stateside this opportunity for others to join us in serving orphans here in South Africa. We also want to introduce our newest board member here in South Africa, Morné Strydom. He is a wonderful, Godly businessman and property developer with 1Life Projects. He has talked extensively on how business and ministry need to come together to help see the purposes of God fulfilled. He has a model that would allow investors to make a great return on their investment as well as allow a percentage to go to Merryfield and other NPO’s. This can be replicated on every development project they undertake. He will be coming to the US with his family during our time back to talk to people in the property development industry and other investors. Please let us know of anyone who might be interested in hearing more. These types of income streams will help make MV self-sustainable and give us opportunities to help other ministries and aid us in not having to continue to ask donors for monthly support. With all that said, we would like to ask for your prayers on some very important decisions we need to make. For several years now, we have been living on and serving here on about 60-70% of the support we need. This is mostly covered through monthly donations. We do have several significant annual gifts that help offset the shortfall for about 4-5 months out of the year. The Lord has laid it on both our hearts that we are not supposed to ask specific people for money, but to only share our needs and let the Holy Spirit work through prayer. Julie was a fundraiser for many years and has no problem asking for assistance, but in this season the Holy Spirit has asked us only to share and trust Him. If someone chooses to give, we don't want it to be from compulsion by us, but cheerfully giving from their own heart how the Lord is leading them (2 Cor. 9:7). Despite the desperate need for orphan care here and opportunities that present themselves almost daily to help, we cannot go down the path into debt for ministry. We need more funding to help run the baby haven/foster home, to pay the house mother and to provide for the expenses of the baby items, etc. Since we've started MV, all the funding for ministry comes out of our personal finances, which we've contributed with joy. Unfortunately, we just can’t do that anymore. We knew we had to let our prayer warriors know how to pray specifically. We fully trust our Father for the provision needed and believe in the working of the body of Christ. We're daily spending time in worship and prayer and we know for sure that, “He's a good, good Father". There's no worry or anxiety for us as we feel peace knowing He knows what’s best. The first quarter of 2019 has been busy with moving to a new city, acclimating to new surroundings and getting connected to our new social worker here. We have already had our home study done, been approved to foster children and are able to take in children in emergency situations and provide a place of safety for children here in our area. We also have partnered with our church NewGen (New Generation Church) Liberty here in Cape Town. It’s been an amazing time of new connections and opportunities to serve orphaned and vulnerable children. We've had some incredible meetings with like-minded individuals and organizations. One of those came out of the blue when Julie received a call from Joan Smith (Tich and Joan are the founders of LIV Village in Durban). They are looking to start a children's village in our area. We met with them, our pastor and his wife, LIV Cape Town directors, Rob & Niki, and others doing ministry here in our area with children. The Holy Spirit truly guided that time and refreshed all of us who truly have a heart for the less fortunate. We look forward to seeing how He will use us together for His kingdom purposes in the future.As we've mentioned in the past, we've partnered with our church to help start a baby haven to take in orphans and those who have been abandoned. This past week there were three babies in care including little Jacob* that's been in care since December. Julie had an opportunity to serve these precious children for the entire week. As a praise, Jacob* was adopted into his forever home this past Monday. It was a blessing to show the love of our Savior to him these last four months and it’s touched our hearts to be a part of such an important need in this area.Also, our pastor here has approached us to oversee our church's outreach initiative called Liberty Care. This would not only include the orphans and vulnerable children’s ministry, but also the other ministries that reach out to the poor and those in need in our community. We see this as a natural extension of what He's called us to do here. We only want to serve where we see the Father working and calling us. As we continue to pray and seek Him for a farm for MV, we will faithfully serve those the Lord puts in front of us.Lastly, we are in a place of need for more monthly and one-time supporters in order to continue serving in South Africa. Your contributions not only help us and MV but also other like-minded non-profits here, a Christian radio station, support of the baby haven and help those we have taken in that have no family.
